Winner of OWN show oozes inspiration and wit
After years as a devoted fan of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” as millions of Americans are, I was especially sad to see her talk show finale on May 25. Even though the show will no longer be part of my daily afternoon routine, she has started a television network that produces a slew of reality TV shows that aim to educate, inspire and entertain.
Earlier this year, the generous media mogul held a TV show contest, “Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star, Your OWN Show” At the end of the series, Winfrey named two winners who earned the opportunity to produce a show for The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
As the two aspiring stars debut their new shows on The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), one contestant in particular caught my eye. Zach Anner, a quick witted 26-year-old Texan who was born with cerebral palsy, competed to win a chance to create a TV show he calls, “Rollin’ Around the World with Zach Anner.” The show highlights his happiness and hardships while traveling in an attempt to convey to anyone confined to a wheelchair that obstacles can be overcome again and again.
In his series, Zach, who sees himself as a “filmmaker and a total goofball,” explores the world and its wonders by way of his electric wheelchair as he meets friends and shares stories with his viewers. A confident and determined Zach describes his TV show idea to Winfrey in his audition video: “It’s not about how to plan the perfect vacation, but to have the perfect vacation when things don’t go as planned…”
Watch Zach Anner explore Los Angeles in the “Rollin’ Around the World with Zach Anner” pilot.
